macOS menu bar utility

Back up.
Walk away. Safely.

TMEject ejects your Time Machine drive the instant a backup finishes — so it’s always safe to pull the cable. And when you stand up to leave, one keystroke ejects the drive and locks your screen.

TMEject is a Mac app — open this page on your Mac to install.

The ritual

One keystroke for leaving your desk.

You’re unplugging the Thunderbolt monitor your drive is daisy-chained to, and walking away. Press the shortcut: TMEject ejects the drive, confirms it’s safe, then locks your screen — a single, deliberate motion you can trust.

Rebindable. Or click Eject & Lock in the menu bar.
What it does

It does the right thing, then gets out of the way.

No control panel. No dashboard. TMEject watches your backups and handles the drive — quietly, and correctly.

Ejects when the backup’s done

The moment Time Machine finishes writing, TMEject verifies the backup and ejects the drive. No more “the disk was not ejected properly.”

Cooldown skips eject if a backup is due soon

Quiet by design

Lives in the menu bar — no Dock icon, no window. The glyph shows what it’s doing at a glance, and says nothing at all when there’s nothing to say.

Light & dark · VoiceOver · color-blind safe

Honest when something’s wrong

If Spotlight is still indexing and the eject can’t complete, TMEject tells you plainly what’s holding the drive — and lets you retry. No silent failures.

Five states.
One glance.

Watch the menu bar, top-right — the popover is live. Every state reads from the icon itself, by shape and motion, not colour alone.
